AYURVEDA & NUTRITION
We are what we eat. Learn how to cleanse and detox your body from the inside out using foods, herbs and lifestyle practices suitable for spring months. Learn basic principles of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of preventative medicine & longevity. Welcome the spring with a mild cleansing plan to thaw out and release toxins that have accumulated throughout the winter! Energize your system while learning how to balance your dosha, your individual constitution, with personalized lifestyle, food and herb recommendations.
You will leave the weekend with handouts and support in continuing your own "at home" Ayurvedic spring cleanse program.
YOGA & MEDITATION
Daily A.M. yoga classes will incorporate practices and postures that encourage the bodies natural cleansing mechanisms: twists that support the digestive system and energizing heart openers for the lungs- let mindful movement help you feel cleansed, invigorated & inspired!
Practice breathing exercises and meditation techniques that encourage grounding and mental clarity.
Afternoons are yours- enjoy hanging out at Tonglen Lake Lodge or adventuring out on the many ski & snowshoe trails in Denali National Park.
Time for "mental cleansing" is just as important!

Introduction to Ayurveda & Gentle Cleansing
What is Ayurveda? Discover more about yoga's ancient holistic "sister science," its philosophy, and why it's practiced all over the world. Are you more vata, pitta or kapha? Learn about your Doshic Prakruti, or Ayurvedic constitution & how that can help you determine lifestyle and food choices for optimal health and well-being. Learn why Ayurveda believes that spring is the best time for cleansing and healthy ways to approach a cleansing program.
Cleansing Toxins (Ama) with Whole Foods 101
Ama is the root of most colds, fevers and flu, as well as the chronic diseases of a weak auto-immune system which may range from allergies to asthma, arthritis, or even cancer. Other ailments that may benefit from holistic cleansing are headaches, brain fog/poor concentration, fatigue, joint pain, muscle aches and pain, and skin problems. We will explore what types of foods support the bodies natural cleansing mechanisms, and what foods contribute to ama.
Supporting Optimal Digestion (Agni)
Good health is dependent upon our capability to fully digest and eliminate food as well as process information taken in by our 5 senses. Any Ayurvedic detox should involve boosting our digestion, known as agni, as well as restoring our 5 senses. When this digestive capacity, or ‘agni’ is balanced, we create healthy tissues, eliminate waste products efficiently and produce a subtle essence called ojas. Ojas is the basis of emotional resilience & physical strength & immunity - it's the key to feeling happy & full of life! Conversely, if our agni is weakened, digestion is incomplete. This accumulation of toxic residue from poorly digested food is known as ama.
Digestion happens on many different levels. Diet is only one piece of the puzzle. Our emotions and state of mind also affect how we process our food. Negative emotions (stress, anxiety, anger, greed, and guilt, etc) also create mental toxins. These are as damaging as their physical counterparts and obstruct the flow of positive feelings and mental clarity, and lead to imbalance. Undigested experiences become toxic like undigested food. So, its not just what we eat, but how we feel when we eat it! We will explore and practice practical ways to incorporate mindfulness with our meals. The mental and physical benefits are profound!
Ayurvedic Self-Care (Dinacharya) for Modern Lifestyles
It's the things we do daily that create wellness in the mind and body. Learn Ayurvedic Dinacharya, or daily self care practices, that support ojas (immunity & resilience) and support gentle cleansing. Practices like oil pulling, tongue scraping, using a neti pot, nasal oil, dry brushing & self-oil massage will be discussed & explored.
Take Home Recipes and “How to” Ayurvedic Home Cleanse Support
You will leave with a collection of recipes and meal ideas for your dosha. We will explore the details of a more extensive week long "at home" Ayurvedic cleanse. Support tools & suggestions for success will be shared.
